We are very fortunate as we are uniquely surrounded on 3 sides by ocean: Geographe Bay to the north, Indian Ocean to the west and the Southern Ocean to the south.
The climate is therefore strongly maritime influenced, with the most marked Mediterranean climate of any zone, and a strongly winter dominant rainfall. It has the lowest mean annual temperature range of only 7.6 degrees C.
The low diurnal and seasonal temperature range means an unusually even accumulation of warmth, while spring frosts are extremely rare and very localised. Ideal for viticulture.
Although the region enjoys in common a mild Mediterranean climate dominated by maritime influences, significant differences can be expected over it’s 90KM north-south legend. Added to Latitude as such, the northern segment faces north across Geographe Bay and is the most exposed to warm and dry north-east winds in summer.
By contrast the southern part is dominated throughout summer by the very consistent south-east trade winds from the Southern Ocean. These are cooler and humid, and bring some coastal cloud.
Central parts of the region are subject to both influences. The resulting north-south climatic gradient is not dramatic as measured by conventional mean temperatures, but is real in vitcultural terms. Serventy is nestled in the south of the central part so benefits from cooler temperatures but has plenty of sunshine for ripening of the fruit. Perfect!
Serventy Wines is situated just off the Bussell Highway which is the main thoroughfare into the Margaret River Region. The vineyard can be found by proceeding south of the centre of Margaret River town for a distance of approximately 12 km. To the south of Witchcliffe the vineyard is signposted on the left hand side of the road and is accessed via Rocky Road.
